Root Beer: Safest Soda Pop for Teeth
Many people realize that the sugar in soft drinks is not good for teeth.
But did you know that the acid ingredients in soda pop are even more harmful? It's true, phosphoric acid or citric acid contained in both regular and diet soft drinks can lead to significant tooth enamel loss.
Enamel is the hard protective outer layer of your tooth. So what is the safest soft drink to consume? The Academy of General Dentistry recommends drinking root beer.
Because root beer is not a carbonated beverage, it does not contain harmful acids. Further, non-cola beverages contain more harmful acid than cola products. If you do drink soda pop, the Academy recommends that you drink through a straw to help reduce contact with teeth and limit soft drink consumption to meal times only.
